Frequently Asked Questions

How the Arcus Is Built, Bought, and Backed.

Arcus is a limited-production loudspeaker built around a cast composite cabinet, custom GR Research crossover, and dedicated stand system. These answers explain how the speaker is built, how ordering works, and what to expect before and after delivery.

The Speaker

The Arcus Speaker

What is the Arcus?

The Arcus is a high-performance standmount loudspeaker built around a proprietary mineral cast cabinet, a custom-designed crossover by Danny Richie of GR Research, and a dedicated stand system engineered as part of the complete assembly. It is built in limited quantities by Stone Sonic Audio in Orem, Utah — cast, finished, assembled, and inspected by hand.

Are Arcus speakers sold individually or as a matched pair?

The Arcus is sold as a matched stereo pair. Each pair is built, finished, and assembled together.

Can I audition the Arcus before buying?

The Arcus is sold direct-to-consumer in limited production quantities, so in-person auditions are not available. To reduce risk, we offer a 30-day return window after delivery. We also provide detailed measurement data and product information so buyers can make an informed decision before ordering.

Are the Arcus speakers designed for outdoor use?

No. The Arcus is a high-performance indoor loudspeaker. The cabinet is mineral cast, but the drivers, crossover, finish, and connection hardware are designed for indoor listening environments only.

The Cabinet

The Cabinet

What is the Arcus cabinet made of?

The Arcus cabinet is cast from StoneCast™ Acoustic Composite, a proprietary mineral cast material developed by Stone Sonic Audio specifically for loudspeaker enclosures. Compared with conventional wood-based cabinets, StoneCast™ produces a denser, more rigid enclosure with measurably reduced cabinet vibration and resonance. The goal is simple: let the drivers and crossover do their job with less cabinet contribution.

Why does cabinet material matter?

A speaker cabinet is not just a box — it reacts to the energy produced by the drivers. When the cabinet vibrates, those vibrations can contribute to audible coloration in the sound. The Arcus uses mass, geometry, and mineral cast construction to reduce unwanted cabinet contribution. The result is a quieter enclosure platform for the drivers and crossover.

Will every speaker look exactly the same?

Each Arcus cabinet is individually cast, finished, and assembled. We control the process carefully, but minor surface variation is normal with cast composite materials. These variations are cosmetic and do not affect performance.

The Crossover

The Crossover

Who designed the crossover?

The Arcus crossover was designed by Danny Richie of GR Research. Danny is known for a rigorous measurement-based approach to loudspeaker design. The Arcus crossover was developed specifically around the actual Arcus cabinet, baffle geometry, and driver combination — not adapted from an existing design.

What makes the crossover special?

The crossover was designed specifically for the GR Research M165 woofer and Neo3 planar magnetic tweeter in the actual StoneCast™ cabinet. Component values were selected from measured performance, not guesswork. Each crossover is hand-assembled and soldered in-house by Stone Sonic Audio using premium components.

Where are the Arcus speakers made?

Every Arcus is built in limited quantities by Stone Sonic Audio in Orem, Utah. Cabinets are cast, finished, assembled, and inspected by hand.

Setup

Stands & Setup

Do the Arcus speakers require the Stone Sonic Audio stand system?

The Arcus is designed to be bolted directly to the Stone Sonic Audio stand system, which provides a secure, engineered connection between the cabinet and stand. If you plan to place the speakers on furniture or another sturdy surface, that is a supported option — the cabinet accepts standard rubber feet for shelf or cabinet placement.

We do not recommend using a third-party speaker stand. Because the Arcus cannot be bolted to stands not designed for it, a 50 lb cabinet on an unsecured stand creates a tipping hazard. Use of a non-approved stand will void warranty coverage for damage caused by improper support or installation. The Stone Sonic Audio stand system is available separately on our website.

How heavy is the complete system?

Each Arcus cabinet weighs approximately 50 lbs. The complete assembly — speaker, StoneCast™ base, and metal tube stand — totals approximately 125 lbs per side. This mass is intentional: it provides stability and supports the low-resonance design philosophy of the speaker. Two people are strongly recommended for unboxing and setup.

Ordering

Ordering & Payment

How does the ordering process work?

A $1,000 deposit reserves your position in the production queue and allows us to begin ordering project-specific components and materials. Once your build is nearing completion, we’ll send an invoice for the remaining balance. Final payment is required before shipment. Current estimated lead time is 4–6 weeks.

What happens if final payment is delayed?

We’ll contact you before taking any action. If the remaining balance is not received within 30 days of the final invoice, we reserve the right to pause or cancel the order. Deposit refundability at that point depends on the build stage and any non-recoverable costs already incurred.

Is my deposit refundable?

If you need to cancel, contact us as soon as possible. Deposits are refundable until production-specific materials or crossover components have been ordered for your build. After that point, refundability depends on the build stage and any non-recoverable costs already incurred.

Shipping

Shipping & Delivery

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping within the continental United States is a flat $150 per order. Each speaker ships in its own protective carton and is fully insured at our expense. We’ll provide tracking once your order ships.

What if my speakers arrive damaged?

Please inspect the packaging and speakers as soon as they arrive. If there is visible damage, photograph the packaging and product before discarding any materials, then contact us in writing within 48 hours of delivery. We’ll work with you to coordinate the insurance claim and arrange repair or replacement.

Returns

Returns & Satisfaction Guarantee

What if I’m not satisfied?

You may return the speakers within 30 days of delivery for any reason. Speakers must be returned in their original packaging, in the same condition received — unmodified and undamaged. Please contact us in writing before shipping the speakers back so we can provide return instructions.

Who pays for return shipping?

Return shipping costs are the buyer’s responsibility. Once the returned speakers are received and inspected, we’ll refund the full product purchase price. Original shipping charges are non-refundable.

Warranty

Warranty

What does the warranty cover?

The Arcus carries a 5-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the original owner. If a covered defect is confirmed, Stone Sonic Audio will repair or replace the affected product or component at our discretion. For warranty service within the continental United States, Stone Sonic Audio will cover reasonable shipping costs associated with approved warranty repairs or replacements.

What’s not covered?

Cosmetic wear, damage from misuse or accident, unauthorized modifications, damage from use with non-approved stands, and environmental damage from moisture, heat, or similar conditions.

Is the warranty transferable?

No. The warranty applies to the original buyer only.
